 WVSBDC's Gaucher Earns Tech Certification

Jamie Gaucher head shot

Congratulations to Jamie Gaucher of the WV Small Business Development Center, who passed the exam for Technology Counselor Certification at the recent Association of Small Business Development Center conference.  He is one of only 39 certified technology business coaches nationwide.

The ASBDC certification requires expertise in tech transfer and commercialization, R&D funding, intellectual property issues, tech networking/resource identification, and alternative financing.

"As the WVSBDC continues to strive to address the needs of West Virginia's entrepreneurs and technology-based businesses, we are committed to improving our own core competencies in an effort to bring value to the state," said Kristina Oliver, Director of the WVSBDC, in praising Gaucher's achievement.

Gaucher has worked for the West Virginia Development Office since 2000, and joined the WVSBDC in 2007.  He manages the WV SBIR-STTR programs and, as a business coach with the WVSBDC, offers expert coaching and technical assistance to West Virginia firms.

Marshall University to Host Cyber Day April 7

Circuit Board image

On April 7, Marshall University will host Cyberinfrastructure Day (CI Day), a one-day conference to showcase state-of-the-art computing technologies available to researchers at the university and across the region.  The goal of the event is to help researchers--at Marshall and elsewhere--understand the potential of technology and supercomputing to enhance research, teaching and research funding.

Marshall alumnus and former Cisco Vice President Selby Wellman will deliver the keynote address.

According to Dr. Tony Szwilski, director of Marshall's Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences and chairman of the CI Day planning committee, the term cyberinfrastructure is commonly used to refer to computational systems, data and information management, visualization environments and people-all linked together by collaborative software and advanced networks.

Complete information about the event, including an agenda, speaker information, and the calls for project demonstrations and students posters, is available at www.marshall.edu/ciday.  The event is free, but advance registration is requested.
